It's no secret that Miami is known for being vibrant, rebellious and full of new flavor but it seems like over the past few years, we've taken it to a whole new level. Take music for example. Million dollar records are being made in bedrooms with a makeshift microphone, beats are being spun on hand-me-down turntables, and the next Whitney Houston is probably singing to herself on the way to the bus stop to get to her diner job. Music is the driving force behind this beautiful city and new genres are being concocted everyday, an up and coming one being EDM Trap. People have dubbed it the "new moombahton" or the "new dub step" but in reality Trap has been circulating around the hip hop scene for years, being featured by artists such as Waka Flocka Flame, Gucci Mane and Three 6 Mafia. Now lets face it, Miami loves dance music and even if you don't particularly enjoy the raunchiness that is Trap, you can't resist the urge to get into the beat and even sing along to the "chopped and screwed" vocal sampling. This new found hype and thirst for Trap music really started in the summer of 2012 and the demand for it has been growing rapidly as more and more DJ's are making appearances to spin their tracks. And where are these DJs coming to you may ask? Mansion, Story, Space, Grand Central……pretty much any popular nightclub in Miami. Just a couple weeks ago I attended an event at Grand Central hosted by an up and coming promotion group known as The Society. That night, Brillz & Vaski, two very energetic DJs performed and the crowd was completely insane to say the least. People go crazy for Trap and pretty soon it is going to take over the club scene. And now we arrive to the final question. Why does music trend so quickly? Well, because we allow it to. When we like something, we tell everyone we know about it and pretty soon it starts to circulate around the grapevine until it becomes this huge obsession. Miami people know how to get crazy and party, and Trap gets everyone crazy so why wouldn't it become popular? Mark my words people, Trap is going to take over the world and there is no stopping it. So either get with it or be left behind in the dust with all the other failed music types.
